By the beginning of the spring, we Persians celebrate the perdition of the Old Witch–the mother to the cold–and the birth of the Maiden of Blessings and Mirth. Our new year starts with this joyful moment. We call it Nowruz (pronounced “no-rooz”), meaning ‘the new day’.
